Why A CIO Can't Be Ignored
Bangalore: The common perception associated with IT has been washed away with waves of the digital revolution. The 'esprit de corps' prevalent among IT executives can be perceived from the importance being showered upon them by board executives in the wake of the contemporary practice of aligning IT with business objectives. As such, it becomes the primary obligation of CIOs to live up to the expectations and strive to generate revenue for its organization through various processes, reports Jonathan Feldman of InformationWeek.
CIOs are now seen to partner with CMOs and other executive heads and lend their expertise in fields pertaining to technology so that they could work hand in hand, fostering business. Moreover, they also have to ensure minimal costs in operations of the business besides taking care of the security sector.
And with consumerization of IT enveloping the corporate, CEOs and CFOs will predominantly look towards CIOs to act as the rainmaker for the enterprise, earning them a new position in the business dynamics.
There is no shred of doubt that IT has been a subject to continuous change, especially with the surge of new-age technologies. The knowledge regarding these neoteric trends and its implications in earning revenue for the company eludes board executives. As such, it is only natural for them to turn towards the expert in the genre to assist the business in the most viable manner.
Thus, with the spotlight being on IT, CIOs should stand up to the tasks entrusted upon them in order to justify their role in the business and claim for a seat in board meetings.
