Bangalore: A unique solution is being attempted in confronting the rising IT costs by the Canadian government companies. They are apparently amalgamating their systems to a single network not only to streamline their services, but also reduce considerably, the data centers they operate from, reports Hally Whalon of IT World Canada.

As such, CIOs are contemplating to transgress towards cloud computing in order to adapt to this new trend. But the security hazards that cloud tags along are very well known and who could possibly know that better than the CIOs who are found to be caught in a catch-22 situation regarding the new delivery model.

Acknowledging their concern, McAfee and the Security and Defense Agenda came up with an enlightening report, highlighting the problems and opportunities associated in adopting cloud. In their report, titled, ‘Cyber-security: The vexed question of global rules,’ offers novel ways of protecting the organization against the securities poised with the advent of using cloud computing and ensure smooth functioning of their infrastructure patterned on cloud computing.

Seemingly, it has become imperative for CIOs to upgrade their security system and review accordingly their policy ownership which needs to be impregnable. In this regard, multi-layered data centre security solutions involving segmented security with respect to the volume and sensitivity of the data can prove to be vital in the shielding against potential threats with a unified management and reporting line.

Moreover, the influx of cloud service providers has brought forth unforeseen security threats making it immensely arduous for CIOs to explore the quintessential security policy involving multiple providers.

The job of the CIOs just escalates as they have to make sure no breach is occurred as it might result in a massive disaster considering the nature of public cloud environment, especially when the consumers are least bothered regarding their personal information thinking it is under the watchful eyes of the government; notwithstanding the fact that threats against personal citizen information and state secrets are on a rise, both from domestic and foreign sources.

Thus, it can be safely concluded that having a cloud based multiple IT system can only be safeguarded by a systematic and integrated layer of security infrastructure which seems to be the only viable solution available to the CIOs.
