Impact of Globalization on IT
Immeasurable pressure are being shouldered by the CIOs as business operations continue to grow in complexity with the advent of neoteric technologies that has come to the fore which they constantly need to keep a tab on. A reanalysis of the entire index of strategies and policies is also mandatory from time to time in order to deal with the ramifications that globalization has brought forth, by Irving Wladawsky-Berger.
The cardinal challenge for CIOs was to anticipate and negotiate shifting of economic powers especially in developing countries which leads to volatile market conditions yielding in unforeseen regulations. CIOs also has to comprehend that with the surge of technology and globalization, the world is connected with a network of systems, both man-made and natural, that are subjected to failure due to unprecedented turn of events.
As such, any decision on their part would have to be taken after a careful consideration of every aspect otherwise the resultant effect could be felt at every nook and corner of the business ecosystems.
Therefore, CIOs need to deliberate on certain facets before they take the plunge in the global market. They need to reinvent, periodically, customer relationships as it is the key way for a business to differentiate itself and standout in our increasingly global, commoditized and hypercompetitive world.
CIOs should also attempt their operations more flexible so that it has the ability to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions. It must embrace innovations like cloud computing, flexible cost structures and partnering capabilities to allow them to rapidly adjust to the change in demand and preference of the consumers.
Finally, creativity is also required on the part of the CIOs in order to confront the rising complexity of the business operations. They should be able to deal with ambiguity and encourage innovation. After careful introspection, calculation and experimentation, CIOs should be audacious enough to take on creative projects to ensure their place in the globalized environment of the world.
Thus, a CIO should conform to the above mandates so that they can propel themselves to a place of stability in this flood of globalization.
