CIOs-Are They Excluded from Chief Decisions?
Bangalore: Position takes over everything. Being a CIO is not an easy task. They are involved in taking important business decisions regarding IT projects, business transformations, acting as a key strategic partner to the CEO and setting goals to widen the organization. According to a report by Penteo and ESADE, a company is considered to be experiencing twice its growth if the CIO sits in the board room and it is also likely to be satisfied with its IT Investments.
But according to a new survey, during business meetings CIOs are found to be invisible despite of the changes in technology. Although they have a high level of technical knowledge and expertise they are not considered to be true members in the executive management team.
Accountancy firm, Earnest & Young after interviewing 300 CIOs all over the world found out that only 17% of the respondents held a position within the executive leadership team. Furthermore, Jason McLean, IT advisory leader, Earnest & Young stated that, the importance of the CIO has not been exploited to its full potential in most companies.
It was also found that most of the executives wanted their CIOs to be seated in the back office, away from the public eye. This came out to be negative point and thus making the CIOs non-ambitious.
However, in this fast changing world, CIOs are considered to be leaders in the field of technology. They need to improve the awareness and understanding of the IT so that it can be used as a unique source of innovation.
When it comes to shaping the future of an organization CIO and other members take active part in seeking responsibility. Only if the C-suite takes sizable risk a CIO can hold a position in the Board Room.
