Impact of iPhone on CIOs
Bangalore: CIOs around the globe are stirred up with the launch of the iPhone 5 and the prospects it offers with respect to work dynamics within the business arena. With BYOD trend catching up at a feverish pitch, the latest offering from Apple might change the landscape considerably when it comes to conducting varied business functions, reports Tom Kaneshige of CIO.
Apparently, people are dubbing the new iPhone 5 as the most happening gadget in the history of mankind. As such, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if CIOs world over contemplate on introducing it for a more comprehensive IT operations among its employees.
Oliver Bussmann, CIO of SAP AG states, “The iPhone 5 is going to trigger another wave of devices. Last year, in the first months after the iPhone 4S launch, we had at least 1,600 [new] devices. We expect similar demand with the iPhone 5 in the months of October and November.” For the record, it was expected to hit the stores on September 21.
What can be viewed as icing on the cake is its outstanding battery life, notwithstanding a bigger screen, faster chip and LTE browsing feature, which many thought to be the primary criteria in the shortening of the battery life prima facie. But surprisingly, Apple claims the new iPhone 5 can support eight hours of 3G talk time, eight hours of 3G browsing as well as eight hours of LTE browsing.
Moreover, the discount offered on the earlier versions of iPhone is quite tempting for CIOs to let go by, especially when it has become a prerequisite gadget within the corporate arena.
As such, this device, which has already started selling like hot cakes, will definitely open up a whole new realm for IT executives longing for a more effective and productive business outcomes.
