Chennai: The CIO Strategy Summit at Chennai was an excellent platform for CIOs to exchange information on current topics, as well as, interact with a variety of industry vendors.
After the phenomenal success of Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune editions, this time CIO's from different sectors gathered to share their views in the 'CIO Strategy Summit' conducted by SiliconIndia on 10th February 2012 at Chennai.
The event started off with the panel discussion: Forging Stronger Business IT Relationships.
The impact of IT on business models and industries is ever increasing, with megatrends such as globalization, externalization and personalization posing new challenges. The economic conditions are driving the need for closer coupling of business and IT strategies than ever before. Against this backdrop all CIOs recognize the imperative for companies to reduce costs and increase business value through IT. At the same time businesses depend on IT to ensure that they are sufficiently agile to respond to increasing volatility in their competitive markets. Closer business and IT alignment is a prerequisite to success.
The panelists who focused on this topic were, Arvind Sivaramakrishnan, CIO, Apollo Hospital Enterprise , L. Veeraragavan, CIO, Esab India, S Sridharan, Executive VP-IT, Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals and Gourav Srivastava, CIO, Randstad India, who said,"Money and Time are basic ingredients for a business and Information has acquired same status and plays a critical role in success of business. People, Process, Practices and Platform are core parts of an organization. Information Technology is a set of techniques to manage information effectively. As CIO of a business we are head of effective information management for the organization. Information Management is effective if it has high degree of business relevance. Business Relevance means anything or any activity that enhances efficiency of any ingredient or core component. Business Relevance can only be achieved by comprehensive understanding of business. To achieve deep understanding of the business, we need to leverage strong business and IT relationship". He concluded by saying that if IT priorities align with Business priorities and we deliver business needs then stronger business relationship is the natural outcome.
L. Veeraragavan, CIO, Esab India, bought up an interesting perspective on Why is it necessary to forge stronger relationship, how can we forge stronger relationship and What are the benefits of stronger relationship. He said,"It was a nice experience and wonder full gathering. The team spirit was very high and audience was very pleasant. Wish all the best to your effort and highly appreciate your endeavor".
S Sridharan, Executive VP-IT, Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals spoke on the role of CIO, the actor who felicitates stronger relationship. He put his thoughts on Building relationship with CEO, building relationship with Business Heads and Preaching IT Team to build stronger relationship with business.
Arvind Sivaramakrishnan, CIO, Apollo Hospital Enterprise, also shared his view on this panel. He threw light on Forging stronger relationship with business in Healthcare Industry. He spoke about the challenges of understanding the medical profession, how to support their ambitious plan and how to leverage the gadgets and ICT.
Pramod Rao, Head - Microsoft Solutions, Dimension Data and Vivek Ravindran, Director - Core & App Platform, Microsoft, bought up an interesting perspective on the topic,'Building on the Cloud: Why should CIOs consider moving to the Cloud?'.
Alexander Zarovsky, Chief of International Business Development, InfoWatch, threw some light on the topic,'Innovative DLP, GRC & SMM Solutions for Indian Enterprises'. He said that the CIO summit was good and it was a great networking platform.
The panel discussion was followed by keynote session by T.G.Dhandapani, Group CIO, TVS Motor and Sundaram Clayton Group, on the topic,"Business Value of Information Technology".
Broad Takeaway: The CIO Summit was a forum for senior level IT executives to engage in clear and focused dialogue with their peers and examine their management objectives in a relaxed and vibrant environment. It helped in networking and the conversations between CIOs helped them to validate CIO related issues in different manners. The best part of the summit was that it was a focused meeting for the CIOs and all of the discussions and topics were of interest and relevant.
