The CIO Strategy Summit at Bangalore was an excellent platform for CIOs to exchange information on current topics, as well as, interact with a variety of industry vendors.
After a phenomenal success of Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi editions, this time CIO's from different sectors gathered to share their views in the 'CIO Strategy Summit' conducted by SiliconIndia on 23rd September 2011 at Bangalore.

The event started off with a keynote session by Jayesh Chakravarthi, SVP & Country Head - Technology, Fidelity India on the topic, 'Leadership Lessons for CIOs'.

What CEOs and the Board Expects from the CIO and IT Head
The current economic climate is calling upon all IT executives to operate with an increasingly acute and sensitive approach to all aspects of business. For executive road warriors and super-busy CEOs, it is a bit difficult to lay the foundations for the best possible relationship between them and the CIOs.

To conserve a prolong relationship between CEOs and CIOs, the CIO has to fulfill certain expectations from the CEO. The CEO's and Board are thinking what business agenda IT Leaders can deliver. The panelists who focused on this topic were, Prasad C.V.G, CIO, ING Vysya Bank; Rajendra K Bandi, Associate Professor, IIM Bangalore and Nandkishor Dhomne, CIO, Manipal Health Enterprises, who said, 'This was a great event and very useful for CIOs. The topics were handpicked with a very practical thought considering the larger interests of CIOs. The best part is sharing the actual industry experience and knowledge on how to deal with various challenges while implementing IT solutions for dynamic business environment.'

Sethu Madhavan, Director Marketing & Strategy from Huawei, bought up an interesting perspective on what are the business drivers, strategies and solutions for next-generation Enterprise IT to get their roots fixed in the corporate world and to increase their growth. He said, 'With the convergence of Telecom and IT enabled by new Cloud-based networking business model, such strategy summits help to not only understand business requirements deeply, but also provides a platform where solutions to business challenges can be addressed in the same platform interlocking enterprises, operators and technology providers'.

Ajay Nawani, Head Presales of Cyberoam, threw some light on the various insider threats, its significance and how to identify them. He said, 'Tackling Insider threats is very important for any organization. CIOs should aim at implementing security solutions that provide in-depth user identity-based controls. Example: over authentication, service authorization, accounting at network level. He also explained his point by saying, ' CIOs should evaluate security solutions to see if that will make their network ready to tackle future threats. Few areas of evaluation include Application Controls, Extensible Security Architecture, Compliance Management, Layer 8 Security.'

Then Raghu Belur, VP from LifeSize Communications India took over and spoke about 'Video collaboration with true mobility'.

The Competitive CIO
CIOs are sitting shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the executive team. Every company needs IT to succeed and remain competitive. CIOs are in the position to lead. Can the CIO profession evolve rapidly enough to match the pace of global competition and technological change? The answer of this question was dealt in the second panel by the panelists, Francis Rajan, VP - ICT, Bangalore International Airport (BIAL); Subbarao Hegde, CTO, GMR Group, who said, 'One of the business driver is collaboration.. It is essential to provide a standard scalable user friendly technology platform to enable its people to connect & work together seamlessly across boundaries and time-zones. Competitive CIO has to build an e-enabled Business excellence competency model to facilitate Lead self, Lead Others, Lead Business & Lead Change with better employee engagement (' Being digital' transformation eco system) to take the business forward with agility.' He also said, 'CIO has to take steps in reducing the complexity in business & helping CEO to shape change & drive business innovation to achieve competitive advantage. Strong alignment between CEOs and CIOs must be there. Business intelligence (BI) and analytics visibility in dash board would be critical success factor for decision making and bottom-up information accuracy & alignment.'
