Bangalore: CIOs in Asia have finally acknowledged the importance of business intelligence and analytics, mobile technologies and cloud computing, keeping in line with the priorities of firms worldwide. According to Gartner, organizations in Asia are predominantly focused on expansion of business, procuring more customers and slashing enterprise costs, reports PC Advisor.

Linda Price, Gartner Executive Programs group vice president for Asia Pacific, stated, "This is the first time that we've seen such a tight alignment and I think it shows that Asia and the rest of the world are becoming one. Globalization is really having a huge impact on the global CIOs' view of business."

The report is based on a survey conducted among 2,336 CIOs, across 44 countries and 37 industries in the fourth quarter of 2011 by popular information technology research and advisory company Gartner.

The survey also revealed that CIOs of Asian companies are more inclined on consolidation, standardization as well as streamlining of operations. Intriguingly, this approach was not shared by their global counterparts.

However, the survey shed light on one aspect of the technology sector that was embraced worldwide, i.e. the surge in business intelligence and analytics which can be mainly attributed to the multi faceted nature of analytics which is capable of blending with other prevalent technologies opening new realms of opportunities.

For example, analytics can render supply chains result in an improved process management. Similarly, it can also be used along with mobility for an increment in sales operations as well as with social networks for attracting and retaining customers.

The survey also brought out other interesting comparisons with regards to the annual IT budget and average tenure of CIOs between Asian countries and those worldwide.
