Bangalore: IT operations are being impacted by poor application performances that crop up every now and then, adding to the already existing technological crunches that CIOs have to deal with. Frequent software issues are becoming a norm in the organization which is echoed in the grunts of the CIOs from all over, reports Byron Connolly of CIO.

A Telsyte report, titled 'Business Application Performance Among Mid-sized Organizations', documented after reviewing the answers of more than 150 CIOs and IT Heads representing companies having a workforce ranging from 50 to 4000 staff, made the discovery that more than 50 percent of the respondents had to come with application based problems on a monthly basis. The report also overshadows the investments made in application hosting, including cloud services.

The survey indicated that 12 percent of the organizations face application performance problems on a regular basis whereas 43 percent deal with the same once every month. A further 27 percent experienced such issues almost every three months.

The survey, which was commissioned by managed service provider Infoplex, also identified the applications that were most likely to be affected by performance issues. Claiming the top spot was the database layer blamed by nearly 31 percent of the respondents.

Commercial-off-the-shelf applications and the network were tied at a close second place, each claiming a share of 30 percent. Application servers were found to be least prone to performance problem with 21 percent indicating significant issues.

Moreover, 47 percent of the respondents contemplate on using some form of Cloud service whereas 21 percent considered moving on-premise workloads to the cloud.

This will further give rise to performance issues with CIOs striving to meet the expected standard set by board level executives. However, what can come in handy are the service agreements on application performance provided by third-party cloud service providers.
