Akamai Technologies appoints Kumud Kalia as the CIO

Prominent IT leader Kumud Kalia is the new SVP&CIO for Akamai Technologies, which provides cloud platform to help enterprises provide secure, high-performing user experiences on any device, anywhere.
If you are using the Internet for anything, be it eCommerce, enterprise cloud computing, software downloads, Web marketing or HD video - you've probably used Akamai's services without even knowing it. The company is estimated to be delivering 20% of the total internet traffic today.
The company is an Internet content delivery network headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, US. Akamai handles billions of daily web interactions for companies including Audi, NBC, and Fujitsu and organizations like the U.S. department of defence and NASDAQ.
Kalia will be responsible for leading the global strategy, development and operations of the applications and infrastructure for Akamai's business. He will also focus on creating an efficient user experience for company's customers, employees and partners.
Kalia will be based in Akamai's San Mateo, CA, office. He will report to Paul Sagan, Akamai president and CEO.
Prior to joining Akamai Technologies, Kalia was the CIO&EVP (customer operations) at Direct Energy, energy and services business operating in USA and Canada. He has also been the vice-president and CIO of the business markets group of Qwest Communications International; CIO for Dresdner Group in North America; president at Lone Tree Executive Solutions; and VP at Qwest Communications.
Kalia holds an honors degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Wales and is a chartered engineer. He was named by Computerworld as 'Best in Class' among the Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2008, and has led teams that received CIO 100 and InfoWorld 100 awards for technology innovation in business.
