CIOs to become Chief Transformation Officers leveraging on IT

"I consider everyone here to be CTOs, 'Chief Transformation Officers', and not CIOs," says Arun Narayanan, Vice President, Global Delivery, USTGlobal during the IBM-UST CIO summit. According to Narayanan, in the world of inter-dependency these transformation officers shall enable the business to adhere to the growing needs of customization, through proper channeling of partners and leveraging on IT. The summit threw light on the industry trends and the challenges faced by the CIOs in dealing with it. The customization of the product as per the needs of the organizations becomes a major challenge for them as they have to deliver expected results with minimized operational cost amidst the complex technology environment.

Thus, for maintaining the expectations of the end user without mounting on cost, remote infrastructure management (RIM) has come to the forefront. This shall comprise of infrastructure monitoring, security monitoring, administrative desk management and data-center management. RIM, in the IT outsourcing business, is scaling up CAGR by 80 percent and the number of customers using it is expected to touch 60 percent by 2010. In fact, as per a Gartner report, 50 percent of the labor hours will shift from on-site to remote support. Hence, "Adopting to it by partnering with a reliable source from not an outsourcing perspective but from a value perspective and establishing clear SLAs, the positive transformation sought in every business can be brought about," says Krishna Prasad, General Manager, Strategy and Services, USTGlobal

Along with relating the industry trends and the impact on CIOs, the summit also introduced 'Tivoli', which forms the anagram 'I Love IT', an integrated business management software with automation, storage, security and infrastructure management, under a single dashboard. Developed by IBM and USTGlobal together, this new version of the software comes in an encrypted format and is certified by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
