With Information Technology capturing every aspect of business process, security awareness is going up at every stage and it is becoming one of the vital needs for the organization. With the cloud and thankfully with the increasing awareness on security, everybody in the industry are quite curious on going with the cloud and security as a before thought, which is a constructive engagement. While selecting cloud as a journey, we have debated very cautiously on Security aspects of the business. For engaging the services and hence selecting vendors, one of the vital criteria is risk assessment and vendors’ proven track record on this subject. We also took the help of consulting agencies like Gartner to track the current benchmarking methods to handle these types of challenges. Equally, critical focus is put to check the vendor engagement process not only at the engagement level, but also at the maintenance and project closure level or termination level from security aspects.

One should as a strategy, always think about what are those binding things upon us before we go with the vendor, and we should ensure every minute detail are captured in the agreement and the agreement is thoroughly proof read with the help of the legal team. Cloud as a journey, security as a fundamental base and cost as a driver, one should always focus on the total cost of ownership for the period of three years. This avoids getting entry into economical and paying high during regular run.
