Suresh is Head - BITS, Mahindra &  Mahindra Financial Services Group. MMFSL has currently Rs.103, 290 million assets worth under management (AUM) up 21% over previous year balance sheet with 600 branches spread across the country. Suresh A Shanmugam (SAS) is the Head of Business Information Technology Solutions (BITS)of Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited (MMFSL- group), the Company which is in the business of financial services for the last 21 years.  SAS has been associated with MMFSL from 13.02.1998 SAS is with Mahindra Group for the past 14 years. SAS is having overall 21 years of IT/IS experience.SAS believes in innovation often sparks brightest in tough time.

Strategically, when we opted for “MF BIZConnect” project, we have framed the business context with the UN tapped market success can be used through our available reach and strengthen speedy service,to empower the business capabilities through expected business capabilities using BITS solutions mandate using defined BITS principles with the available mobile governance at affordable financial management with the combination of management verse executive - Verse, the corporate customer metrics. Data Matters: a division of BITS software

The Various Analytical Report requirements are kept increasing at all levels.  Everyone wants to see the same report indifferent angle with some minor changes. Although the presence of BI tools& other Reporting tools had helped this requirement addressed to some extent there seems to be huge gap even after this.

A simple solution for this gap in reports requirement given in all software products including ERPs like SAP,oracle etc is extracting detail level data to Excel/CSV formats. These data in detail are downloaded to the user’s local computer on a time to time to bases and various pivots and filter reports are built based on that for
their requirement. The Justification given for this simple solution is Users find it easy with handling the data. Sounds Good? But have we noticed the Risk involved in this model?

The actual truth is Most of the BI could not be implemented completely as the requirements are not visualized at the implementation stage.  Normally, a small team (Implementation Team) gathers the requirements from various users and consolidates that as the requirement.  KRA for implementation is with the implementation team only and not with the users who give the requirement.  Hence the seriousness is lost.  Result is the simple solution of data extraction continues even after BI implementation.

Who should bell the cat?  It is the Technical team who is aware of these risks to create the awareness among the users on these risks.   We at BITS, Mahindra Finance had initiated a new division to take care of these issues.  BITS Division is initiated as DATA MATTERS.
