My current job detail
I am holding the charge of Director(Computer Division) for more than a decade (September 2000) with the responsibility to provide IT services to all in IGNOU at the HQ, New Delhi; country wide Regional Centres (each State has at least two Regional Centres); and over 3000 Study Centres. There are over 50 Partner Institutions overseas. IGNOU offers more than 450 academic programmes through its 21 Schools of Studies at the main campus (HQ).The Division caters to all requirements related to IT from requirement analysis, procurement & commissioning of hardware resources; networking; ERP, Software Development, & Data Centre; NKN(1Gbps) and Reliance link (100Mbps) for internet and SAAS services; IGNOU web site www.ignou.ac.in hosting, management & monitoring; campus LAN set up and maintenance with OFC & WiFi etc.

Have inclusive approach, look around the needs and then go for well established and proven technology

Open in extending the desired and required services without self motive/interest and expand in terms of higher level of (computing) resources with thrust on optimising ROI
Advice to upcoming leaders
Lead the team with no self motive and without caring for any personal benefit including the career. Think for betterment addressing enmasses
Avoiding mistakes both personal as well as professional
Inclusive and participative approach, regular discussion and monitoring, listening to subordinates and appreciating their (in time) efforts

Listen to the problems and issues, approaching higher level management (VC/ProVC) for needful solution if beyond my personal capacity/delegated-power
Important career decisions
First joining 'industry' to have real world exposure on software development/ deployment/administration/user behavior then joining world class organization for providing IT services, implementing ERP and developing cohesive environment for SAAS and SOA centric applications.
My views on India technical development
Academic institutions should have projects funded by Governmental Departments/Ministries, MNCs at all level - UG, PG, Doctoral and Post Doctoral levels so that rich resources are available for real & world class requirements and applications. IT facilities must be available in Hindi as well as all spoken languages in various States (India)
My family background
Well educated wife managing the house with two children - elder one completed Master and the younger boy is Graduating (3rd Year) in IT
