More about myself
I believe that life has a lot to offer, you just need to know what you want and then go for it!
Thoughts on Education system of our country
I believe there should be a chance for students in universities to have regular exchanges with institutions in and out of India. This will allow for cross-fertilization of ideas. For example, MIT and Harvard have a good relationship with engineering and business brains meeting together on a regular basis. Also, akin to the US system, the students should be encouraged to try out their ideas as budding entrepreneurs and their failures should be treated as a greater success and supported to challenge their ideas even further. More creativity comes out of the institutions, less reliant we will be from outside sources.
My strongest skill
Always ready to learn, an attitude of "getting things done" and staying focused on the "big picture".
Degree that I recommend
The MBA gives you a broader perspective - both professionally in business as well as in personal life.
Important lesson learned
Be open to learn, stay focused on your goals and as a close confidante once said "aspire without expectations" as life is full of surprises!
My family background
Middle class family with traditional roots, giving high importance to values, education and health.
My achievements
I have continued to play waterpolo at a professional level in the various parts of the world I've been.
My role model
My inquisitive mind and traveling body makes the best of any situation. So, I have learnt the best and good practices from each workplace manager and leader throughout my career. Each situation demands a different managing and leading style and this is the learning I've got so far.
Brief description about me
Born and raised in Bombay, educated in Boston, Chicago and Berlin, I've worked in corporations in different parts of the world - Chicago, Boston, Seattle, NYC, Berlin, Munich, Sydney. I consider myself an innovative thinker and creative entrepreneur with strong social capital, skilled in resource allocation, networking, negotiations and strategy. I continue to pursue my passion - waterpolo.
Initiative to develop a country
We as immigrant professionals can act as change agents in India and share our knowledge and experiences from "outside in". Also, we have the opportunity to educate our non-Indian counterparts with Indian ideas and assets that can be utilized further (i.e. "inside out").
Influenced by
My family has been the backbone of my life outside India - supporting my decisions incessantly.
Important decision
I challenge myself when I feel comfortable/contented with an environment and yearn to learn more. Hence, the decisions to leave Bombay in 1999 and then Boston in 2011.
Ensuring success
I continue to learn from my peers, environment and media. As life progresses, I am constantly discovering my strengths and weaknesses, towards self-betterment.
Couple of years from now
I shall continue to "connect the dots", by bridging cultural gaps, matching business needs, and sharing experiences.
Qualities needed to become a successful leader
A leader should be adept at aligning the company strategy with the team's motivations.
