Bangalore: There is no denying that the role of CIO has undergone a huge paradigm shift over the years. Moreover, generating revenue by enabling business through IT has become one of the primary traits of an established CIO. All it is required of them is to identify the trends that are most viable to the business and implement them in the operations. As such, it becomes imperative for CIOs to analyze and adapt to these trends if they want to ensure their survival in the industry, reports Sean Bowen of Finextra.

For instance, new data streaming technologies are there for CIOs who wish to incorporate a more flexible working environment – be it at home or within the office boundaries. A CIO, who is on his toes at all times need to analyze this particular trend in order keep up with the demand of the business.

On top of that, BYOD has sparked a revolution in the corporate sector, mostly due to the inferior quality of hardware as well as software that the employees are offered. This has been a concern for CIOs as it gives rise to security issues and some of them have resorted to put a restriction on this trend. This in return has created a furor among employees.

Subsequently, a CIO can take the refuge in a real time data distribution which will enable them to keep a track of the usage of data as well as put a lid on the amount of data accessible to the employees without actually barring this trend. Result: win-win situation for all!

CIOS also need to educate themselves on the social media front in a business friendly manner in order to ensure effective communication with the employees without the wastage of time. Social media will also help to synchronize both personal and professional life, liberating employees and ensuring they work efficiently.

Thus, a new age CIO should keep pace with these surging trends in order to cement their role in this digital revolution, thus meeting the company obligations in the process.
